Our Chef
Meet Chef Darvin “Chef D” Alford
Founder & Executive Chef — Tasty Chef Catering
Before cooking became my career, it was my curiosity.
One of my earliest food memories isn’t in a restaurant — it’s sitting in bed watching the Food Network. Emeril Live was my favorite. Chef Emeril Lagasse was magic to me — bold, charismatic, confident. I watched religiously as the sounds of sizzling pans filled the TV, while the real aroma of dinner floated in from my kitchen. That smell came from my first inspiration: my mother.
Food was always present in my home. Cooking wasn’t optional — it was a staple. My mom was an incredible cook, and our house was the gathering place for sporting events, celebrations, and family moments. My parents didn’t just cook food — they created vibes. Watching them host planted a seed that would grow into my purpose.

Where It Became Real
By sixth grade, I was cooking for myself. Breakfast was my specialty — mostly because it was the only thing I knew how to make. But everything changed in home economics class when I cooked a ham and cheese omelette. That one dish unlocked something in me.
Cooking shifted from interest to intention.
I continued learning by watching, observing, and absorbing — picking up seasoning instincts from my mother, while studying technique and flair from the chefs I admired on television. What once felt like a dream became attainable when I discovered the culinary program at UA–Pulaski Technical College. I immediately changed my major from computer technology to culinary arts and never looked back.
That decision shaped my future.
⸻
Education & Foundation
I earned my Associate of Applied Science in Culinary Arts from the University of Arkansas at Pulaski Technical College, along with certifications in:
• Basic Food Preparation
• Human Resources Management & Supervision
• Controlling Food Cost (National Restaurant Association)
This foundation gave me more than cooking skills — it gave me structure, discipline, and an understanding of how to build a sustainable, professional culinary brand.
⸻
My Cooking Style
Soul food with polish. Comfort with intention.
My food is rooted in Southern comfort, elevated with thoughtful technique and refined presentation. Every dish is built to feel familiar, yet memorable.
If one plate represents me, it’s my
🏆 Shrimp & Grits with Cajun Crawfish Gravy
Bold flavor, layered seasoning, and a finish that leaves a lasting impression.
Clients consistently compliment two things: the flavor and the presentation. I believe food should excite you before the first bite — and satisfy you long after.

Why Clients Choose Chef D
Clients don’t come back just for food — they come back for the experience.
What sets me apart from most caterers is my ability to create moments around meals. I focus on:
• Balanced, intentional flavor profiles
• Fresh, local ingredients whenever possible
• Quality cuts of meat
• Clean, polished execution
• Hospitality that makes people feel at home
I don’t just serve plates — I create memories.
⸻
The Traveling Chef Experience
When I step into your home or event space, my goal is simple:
I want you to feel the same anticipation I felt as a child — waiting, smelling, knowing something special is coming.
There’s a difference you can taste when a chef is passionate about the craft. From sourcing ingredients to building flavors, I bring purpose into every kitchen I cook in. That passion shows up in the food — and in the atmosphere.
⸻
My Standards
I do not compromise on:
• Quality
• Flavor
• Professionalism
Professionalism is the backbone of the Tasty Chef brand. We communicate clearly, arrive prepared, respect your space, and work to exceed expectations every time.
⸻
Legacy & Purpose
Being a chef gives me the freedom and stability to be present for my wife and two daughters. More importantly, it allows me to show my family what it looks like to live with passion, lead with integrity, and pursue your calling with confidence.
I want my girls to remember watching me build something meaningful — something rooted in service, discipline, and heart. I want them to know that dreams are worth chasing, even when the road is hard.

““Cooking is my art form, a medium through which I express myself. I take great pleasure in harmonizing flavors and carefully composing plate arrangements, it’s where I found my voice and it speaks loudly. Some may wonder how I came to be a chef, but the truth is, it found me. Ever since I can recall, I have had a passion for food.””
